I challenge you to this….
This may sound like a daunting feat, but I can assure you it’s much easier than you think.
Once upon a time, I couldn’t even consider the possibility of eating muffins, pancakes or main meals without grains, they were a staple in my diet. They provided comfort and sustenance, not to mention I really loved them!
However, they didn’t love me. The constant consumption of grains – even gluten-free ones, left my belly bloated, gassy and uncomfortable. Below the surface, grains were also causing my gut lining to become weak, resulting in leaky gut and ultimately an autoimmune condition known as hashimotos (a form of thyroid dysfunction). Since this discovery I have had a whole slew of discomforts – which I am sure you can relate to. Gas, bloating, puffiness and just an overall feeling of sluggishness.
When I made the switch to take grains out of my diet (which was just over 6 months ago), I felt immediate relief. I can’t even describe the difference. My energy, digestion and vitality all improved. This transition forced me to get even more creative in the kitchen and experiment with some of my favourite recipes, without the grains!
I don’t know if I will be grain-free for life, but what I do know is the the temporary removal of them has allowed my gut to heal and my digestion to function optimally. I think that when I do bring grains back in, they will be gluten free and like will come from the pseudo-grains category including quinoa, buckwheat, amaranth, teff and wild rice. I will be explaining more on this during the challenge.
